Peter Calvesbert’s Turn the Tide TJD04 brings together a group of dolphins in a scene that is both playful and quietly thought-provoking. Their familiar smiles and lively character provide the humour, while the sculpture also draws attention to the threatened freshwater dolphins of the Yangtze River.
Carved in 2009, Turn the Tide was inspired in part by the plight of the Baiji dolphin. The lid bears the names Orca and Maui, representing the largest and smallest members of the dolphin family, along with the scientific name of the bottlenose dolphin. Peter’s signature mouse is swimming frantically to stay ahead of the dolphins, while the interior reveals a fish that was not quite so fortunate.
The piece was produced in England in an edition of 500 and released in January 2010.

This example has a documented history that distinguishes it from an ordinary secondary-market Turn the Tide. It comes directly from the former Harmony Kingdom Archives inventory dispersed at auction in August 2026 and was acquired by AtopTheTables from Archive Lot HK134.
