Harmony Kingdom Perfect Ten RW05HKX Peter Calvesbert Archive

Peter Calvesbert carved Perfect Ten to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Royal Watch Collector’s Club. Ten creatures circle this unusually interactive, multi-compartment box figurine, while the top and middle lids rotate to create 100 different combinations. Peter joked that if one arrangement became tiresome, another was only a twist away, and cited a favorite combination of turtle head, zebra body and flamingo legs.

The exterior records the ICE expo cities Peter visited, although he admitted accidentally omitting Edison, New Jersey. Inside, a pair of mice provides another miniature story inspired by the sounds Peter heard beneath his floorboards while carving the piece. One mouse tries to read while another downstairs plays electric guitar, leaving the reader thoroughly exasperated.

The book is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, a favorite of Peter and his son Sam. A newspaper headline adds a baseball reference, recalling HK collector Alan Kimenker taking Peter to Fenway Park to see his beloved Boston Red Sox lose to the Yankees. Harmony Kingdom wryly noted that 2004 must therefore have been a particularly happy year for Alan. Perfect Ten was a timed Royal Watch redemption piece exclusive to 2005 members, with an edition size of 1,075.
