Harmony Kingdom King Of The Hill Pangolin TJPG LE 4000 Peter Calvesbert Archive

King Of The Hill gives Peter Calvesbert's humor an unusual subject: a pangolin raiding a termite mound. The scale-covered mammal curls defensively like an armadillo and uses its extraordinarily long tongue to feast on termites, one of which waves a white flag of surrender.

The mound carries “No. 8,” a house number Peter chose at random. Inside, the queen termite sits amid her offspring with a baby-name book; “36K” and “50” refer to a queen's ability to produce up to 36,000 eggs a day over a lifespan that can reach 50 years. Peter's signature mouse appears in the bend of the pangolin's tail.

Carved in 2001 and released October 11, 2001, King Of The Hill reached stores February 1, 2002. Made in England as a Limited Edition of 4,000 signed pieces worldwide, 3,600 were allocated to the Americas.
