Harmony Kingdom Ganesha TJHDEL LE 500 Hundu Deity Ann Richmond Archive

Ann Richmond's Ganesha brings together many of the distinctive symbols associated with the Hindu God of Knowledge. The elephant ears suggest knowledge gained through listening and the large head knowledge through reflection, while the whole and broken tusks represent perfection and imperfection in the physical world. His posture—with one leg grounded and the other folded in meditation—expresses a balance between practical and spiritual life.

Ganesha's four arms carry further symbols, including a rope to draw devotees toward truth, an iron hook representing control over desire and a bowl of sweetmeats signifying earthly prosperity and wellbeing. His mouse companion represents the ability to gnaw through barriers. Richmond added a calendar marked 1947 for the year of India's independence, “4izzy” for her new granddaughter, and Rufus, the cheeky hare seen elsewhere in her Harmony Kingdom work.

Carved in 2006 and released March 28, 2006, Ganesha was made in England as a particularly small Fixed Edition of just 500 pieces. It reached stores July 30, 2006 as part of the Small Treasure Jest subset.

This example has a documented history that distinguishes it from an ordinary secondary-market Ganesha. It comes directly from former Harmony Kingdom Archives inventory dispersed at auction in August 2026 and was acquired by AtopTheTables from Archive Lot HK57.
