David Lawrence’s Feast & Firkin features a hungry mouse rubbing his tummy in anticipation of a juicy burger. Inside, however, the joke takes a darker turn: a cow wears a crown inscribed “La Vache Fou,” French for “mad cow,” giving Lawrence another opportunity to tuck contemporary humor into one of his carvings.
Feast & Firkin, together with Leg & Bucket, forms the two-piece “Pub Grub” set, created to celebrate a major milestone: the 100th Harmony Kingdom box figurine carved by David Lawrence. Only 500 Pub Grub sets were produced worldwide. Leg & Bucket is included in the inventory we received from the archives.
The set was distributed in an unusually exclusive fashion. Rather than being offered through normal retail channels, Pub Grub was available only through a lottery for current members of the Royal Watch Collector’s Club. Members entered through information provided in The Queen’s Courier #26.
Even the name has a real-world connection. “Feast and Firkin” was the name of an actual pub in Leeds, England, fitting perfectly with the British-pub theme that runs through the Pub Grub set.
