Peter Calvesbert’s Dressed to Kill gives the mischievous penguin Mad Murphy another starring role, this time masquerading as an English gentleman. Murphy is still trying to quit smoking, complete with nicotine patch, while blowing soap bubbles from his pipe. A Harmony Ball tie is tossed casually over his shoulder as part of his attempt at respectability.
To appear suitably learned, Murphy has borrowed a wonderfully dubious stack of books. Titles include a warning about the dangers of collecting, “Berk’s Peerage”, a spoof on Burke’s Peerage, “Bernie the Beagle”, referring to the pet of Queen’s Courier editor Kim Cinko’s family, and the decidedly cheeky “The Pop-Up Kama Sutra.” His jar of soap bubbles props up part of the pile, while Peter’s signature mouse peers from beneath a tail feather.
Inside is another book titled “Indy Clubs,” commemorating Harmony Kingdom’s expanding network of authorized independent collector clubs. Dressed to Kill was offered as an exclusive to members of those independent clubs and it was produced in an edition size of 2,315.
