Harmony Kingdom Cow Town RW00MA Royal Watch Manatee Archive

David Lawrence’s Cow Town was a Royal Watch Collector’s Club redemption piece exclusive to 2000 members. Carved in 1998 and released January 1, 2000, it remained available as a Timed Edition until March 31, 2001, with a published edition size of 6,511.

Lawrence had difficulty finding adequate manatee reference material while working in rural England, and his first version mistakenly carried the bifurcated fluke of a dugong. Harmony Kingdom enthusiasts helped supply better reference material, and the finished carving became a tribute to those contributors. Inside, a jar marked “Pearl Jam” refers to Mike Perlman, a key marked “JIM” recognizes Jim Keesler, and the Florida Keys appear among the seabed details. “Chessie” honors the manatee known for seasonal trips to Chesapeake Bay, while “JB Rules” salutes Jimmy Buffett and his work with Save the Manatee. A bandage on one manatee’s tail references propeller injuries, and the bitten propeller inside imagines a bit of overdue retaliation. A mirror and comb on the exterior are traditional attributes of a mermaid.
