About Coup d'etat
Peter Calvesbert’s 2008 Black Box Coup d'etat turns the tables on the production of foie gras, with five ducks taking revenge by force-feeding the master carver. The piece was carved in 2008, released June 3, 2008, and reached stores August 25, 2008 as a Limited Edition of 1,000.
Typical of the Black Box series, the carving is packed with pointed jokes and inscriptions. A corn sack marked “Liverburst” plays on liverwurst; “France” and “80” refer to France and the share of foie gras consumption described by Harmony Kingdom. The base names countries that had prohibited its production, while “Arny 2012” refers to Arnold Schwarzenegger and the planned California ban. Inside, a goose works out, apparently worried about gaining weight.
