Harmony Kingdom Boom Box Fish TJFI4 Fixed Edition Peter Calvesbert Archive

What better fish to turn into a box figurine than the boxfish? Peter Calvesbert built Boom Box around that natural joke, while also nodding to the boxfish’s formidable defense. These fish are sometimes called “Neutron Bomb” fish because of the toxic substance they can release when frightened.

The rocks carry another distinctly Calvesbert detail: “22 APR CUCKOO.” Spring in England is traditionally heralded by the cuckoo returning from Africa, and Peter recorded spotting one on April 22. It turns a tiny inscription into a personal note from the artist.

Opening the box reveals an interior arranged like a miniature aquarium. “F.L.” refers to Fat Larry, also known as “Zoom,” Peter’s goldfish from his years living in London, while a mouse has wandered into the scene and is in some danger of becoming a boxfish snack.

Carved in 2003 and released May 28, 2003, Boom Box was made in England as a Fixed Edition of 5,000 pieces. It reached stores September 1, 2003 as part of Harmony Kingdom’s Small Treasure Jest subset.
