About Aria Amorosa

Two seals are lovingly entwined, their mouths open as though singing together. Peter Calvesbert's Small Treasure Jest retired July 1, 1998.

The affectionate scene hides less romantic details: a Plimsoll line and numerical markings on one seal represent the amount of oil that could be extracted from an elephant seal. A cigarette lighter beneath a flipper recalls discarded plastic lighters Peter encountered while beach-combing in North Wales. His familiar mouse peers from beneath another flipper.

Inside is a rat, inspired by Peter mishearing a radio report about the Montserrat volcanic catastrophe as a report about a “monster rat.”

We acquired this piece directly from the former Harmony Kingdom Archives inventory dispersed at auction in August 2026, from Archive Lot HK134.

Our acquired Archive inventory documented 24 examples of TJES: one with a square box and 23 with round cylinder boxes.
